Acme Packet Surpasses 1,000 Customers and 10,000 Systems Deployed on Strong Service Provider and Enterprise Demand for SBCs
Acme Packet customer base grows nearly fifty percent in last twelve months driven by growth in enterprise SIP trunking and service provider services, subscribers and overall traffic
BURLINGTON, Mass., Mar 22, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Acme Packet(R) /quotes/comstock/15*!apkt/quotes/nls/apkt (APKT 18.37, +0.11, +0.60%) , the leader in session border control solutions, today announced the company reached two significant milestones with the acquisition of its 1,000th end customer and shipment of its 10,000th Net-Net(R) session border controller (SBC). More than 200 enterprise organizations have joined over 800 service providers worldwide in turning to Acme Packet to help deliver trusted, high-quality, real-time interactive communications, reflecting a 48 percent growth in Acme Packet's customer base in the last 12 months.
The 1,000th end customer, an enterprise healthcare services organization, demonstrates the growing trend within enterprise, contact center and government organizations of deploying SBCs to help them meet critical security, interoperability, service assurance and regulatory compliance challenges as they accelerate their adoption of IP-based interactive communications. The organization is using Acme Packet Net-Net SBCs to secure network resources and enable seamless communications across network borders between its internal network and PAETEC's SIP trunking service network. According to Infonetics Research's most recent Enterprise SBC Market Outlook report, this trend is set to continue with the enterprise SBC market expected to grow an average of 49 percent per year through 2013 due to the rapid adoption of IP-to-IP connectivity and SIP trunking within enterprise organizations.
In approximately two years, Acme Packet has doubled the number of Net-Net SBCs deployed due to a broad set of emerging, market driving services for wireline, wireless and cable service providers around the world. These services, including enterprise SIP trunking, hosted residential and business services, IP interconnects/peering, and over-the-top services have created new business opportunities for service providers, which in turn, rely on Acme Packet to securely deliver their services across both access and interconnect border points. For example, PAETEC, an Acme Packet customer since 2006, has seen increased demand for its award-winning SIP Trunking VoIP service from enterprise customers because of the service's ability to address security, connectivity, business continuity and other critical business issues. As a result, PAETEC recently purchased Acme Packet's 10,000th SBC unit for additional capacity to address new and continued growth from its more than 44,000 business customers, including universities, hospitals and government agencies.
"Over the past several years, we've seen a dramatic growth in our advanced, SIP-Trunking products throughout our entire customer base," said Sanjay Hiranandani, senior vice president of engineering at PAETEC. "The Acme Packet Net-Net SBCs are instrumental elements in managing the ever increasing network demands, and ensuring that our customers receive the unmatched service they've come to expect from PAETEC."
"Acme Packet is moving into a new phase of growth as mass market adoption of SBCs by both enterprises and service providers takes hold," said Andy Ory, president, CEO and co-founder of Acme Packet. "New services and applications such as enterprise unified communications, video conferencing, enterprise federation, HD voice, SIP/RCS services over 3G and LTE, and fixed-mobile convergence are only in the very early stages of trials and initial deployments. Both new and existing customers will look to Acme Packet to provide critical security, service assurance and regulatory compliance solutions for successful delivery of these services and applications."
