Arise Joins FCC Broadband Adoption Initiative
Arise Supports FCC Initiative “Connect to Compete” With a Virtual Training Platform and Online Training
MIRAMAR, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Arise Virtual Solutions Inc., the world’s leading provider of virtual business solutions, today announced that it has joined the FCC Broadband Adoption Initiative along with Microsoft, Best Buy, CareerBuilder.com and Monster.com. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski announced a national “Connect to Compete” public-private-non-profit partnership program designed to increase broadband adoption, elevate digital literacy and assist Americans in searching and training for jobs. View the video of FCC Chairman Genachowski’s speech and comments by Arise Co-Chairman, Angela Selden.
Angela Selden, Co-Chairman of Arise Virtual Solutions, said, “With broadband infrastructure support from the FCC, and the entrepreneurial spirit of the American worker, innovations such as virtualization will continue to create work opportunities for every American, at home or in businesses, spurring the economy and providing the United States with the necessary tools to compete and win in this new global reality.”
According to the Pew Research Center, one-third of all Americans – 100 million people – have not adopted broadband high-speed Internet at home. The public-private partnership seeks to overcome the top obstacles to broadband adoption, including digital literacy, relevance and cost. The national program is the first major action by Chairman Genachowski’s Broadband Adoption Task force, announced in May to help close the adoption gap.
Julius Genachowski, the Chairman of the FCC, said, “I'm pleased to participate in the announcement of `Connect to Compete,' a first-of-its-kind, nationwide initiative to tackle America's broadband adoption challenge. It is a major effort to promote broadband adoption and digital literacy for all Americans. I applaud the companies and non-profit organizations that have joined together to launch this effort. Arise Virtual Solutions, one of the largest virtual services companies, will provide customer service jobs training, virtually, in addition to online sessions in digital literacy.”
Arise is supporting the FCC’s initiative “Connect to Compete” by providing a virtual training platform to conduct train-the-trainer classes for volunteers, librarians, and other educators who may be unable to attend in-person sessions. In addition, Arise will contribute the services of its own instructors to provide hundreds of hours of live and self-paced online training for the Connect to Compete Digital Literacy Corps.
Chairman Genachowski, continued, “Yesterday, I joined the American Teleservices Association, which announced new commitments from several companies to on-shore or create tens of thousands of call center jobs here in the U.S. Many of these jobs can and will be performed from home, thanks to broadband. Yesterday's commitment is part of an effort the FCC helped initiate, called Jobs4America, which last month announced 100,000 new call center jobs in the U.S. within two years. The effort is ahead of schedule and that's good for our economic recovery and good for America's long-term global competitiveness.” Arise is a member of the Jobs4America coalition.
