Aurora Networks Debuts New Technology Advances Supporting RFoG Deployments
Solutions for the Headend and Virtual Hub, and a New CPE Device, Enable Cable Operators to Evolve to All-Fiber Networks
NEW ORLEANS--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Aurora Networks, Inc., the only optical transport solution provider focused on delivering a cost-effective, optimized platform for next-generation cable services, today introduced new RFoG (RF over Glass) devices that support cable operators as they evolve their all-fiber networks. These solutions are on display at the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo® 2010 in New Orleans, in booth No. 1552.
The technology advances round out Aurora Networks’ solutions for both direct-fed and distributed RFoG architectures. The new products, including diplexer/return receivers, a PON filter module, two high-powered optical amplifiers and an MDU CPE device, support RFoG networks at the headend, in the field at virtual hub sites and at the home. The compact devices save space and are simple to install, reducing complexity for an RFoG network while enhancing upstream performance for DOCSIS® 3.0-enabled services.
What Aurora Networks says
"RFoG technology is the network architecture of choice for cable operators that want to bring all-fiber connectivity to homes and businesses. RFoG platforms are ideal for cost-effectively taking fiber to customers in low-density, rural areas, new developments and MDUs. Aurora Networks’ RFoG architecture also can evolve with a cable operator's needs, enabling a migration to full-PON capabilities," said John Dahlquist, vice president of marketing, Aurora Networks. "These new devices from Aurora Networks support the requirements of RFoG networks both today and tomorrow.”
Aurora Networks’ RFoG solutions for the headend
- FA3533M High-powered EDFA – This EDFA is optimized for use in RFoG architectures, providing 16 outputs at 21 dBm.
- OR3144H diplexer/return receiver – This diplexer/return receiver for the headend or hub facility is a high-density, energy-efficient single half-depth module with integrated optical filters and four return receivers.
The OR3144H receiver is a key element within Aurora Networks’ RFoG solution, providing enhanced performance to support the return path loss budgets associated with RFoG and the requirements of DOCSIS 3.0-enabled services. Four receivers are combined internally with an equivalent noise performance of a single discrete receiver. This "noise-less" internal combining feature provides up to 6 dB noise improvement over four externally combined receivers.
- OP3168P Octal PON filter module – Aurora Networks’ Octal PON filter module helps cable operators initially integrate and eventually migrate RFoG networks to all-PON capabilities. When used with the OR3144H, the Octal PON filter simplifies the deployment of RFPON (RFoG with PON capabilities) services. The compact Octal PON filter also saves valuable rack space within the headend.
Aurora Networks’ Virtual Hub-based RFoG solutions
- OR4148H RFoG Diplexer/Return Receiver – This compact, plug-in module works with Aurora Networks’ NC4000 and NC2000 series VHub™ platforms that support RFoG deployments. The OR4148H provides eight 1550 nm forward signal inputs and eight 1310/1550 nm network outputs.
- FA4527S Optical Amplifier – This high output, compact amplifier features eight high level outputs at 18 dBm.
New CPE technology
- MDU RFoG CPE - Aurora Networks’ latest CPE device enables cost-effective provisioning of advanced video, voice and data services over an all-fiber network. The CP85xxU family of CPEs provides a high output level of 36 dBmV to support high-density MDU applications over a single fiber. The new MDU RFoG units offer the enhanced upstream performance critical for RFoG deployments.
