BigBand’s vIP PASS™ awarded four diamond rating by panel of leading cable operator judges

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBND), a leader in digital video networking, today announced that its IP video delivery solution, vIP PASS™, has received a four diamond rating in Broadband Gear Report’s (BGR’s) 2010 Diamond Technology Reviews.

“The judges were impressed with the vIP PASS solution because of its ability to utilize the baseline infrastructure that MSOs already have today to deliver on the next wave of cable services,” said Steve Johnson, Diamond Reviews Manager, Broadband Gear Report. “More than ever before, cable operators need solutions that allow them to build on what they already have in place and deploy new services quickly. The panel felt that BigBand’s unique IP video solution delivers on both accounts.”

BGR’s Diamond Technology Reviews recognize the cable industry’s most advanced products and solutions and are judged by independent panelists based on a number of rigorous criteria. Products and solutions entered in this year’s Diamond Technology Reviews were judged by an accomplished panel of industry and engineering experts at leading cable operators including: Bright House Networks, Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications, Suddenlink, Sunflower Broadband, Time Warner Cable and the National Cable Television Cooperative.

“BigBand is proud to have received a top ranking in BGR’s Diamond Technology Reviews program,” said Ran Oz, Executive Vice President, CTO and Co-Founder of BigBand Networks. “This recognition provides further industry confirmation of the strength of BigBand’s vIP PASS, and the company’s leadership in the development of solutions that cost-effectively extend high quality managed cable services to a growing number of connected devices in the home.”

BigBand’s vIP PASS solution is a robust video IP delivery solution that leverages the same cable network architecture, software systems and network-based tools that are used to deliver and manage all of today’s proven cable video services. vIP PASS supports the delivery of IP video services to a wide variety of IP-enabled consumer electronics devices. By ‘wrapping’ IP video in DOCSIS®, the industry's signaling standard, vIP PASS enables service providers to deliver video streams to IP devices without the need to transit through a CMTS. vIP PASS is designed to offer a more cost-efficient means to deploy IPTV today, whether through managed services or over the top.

BigBand’s comprehensive suite of solutions, including vIP PASS, will be on display in booth #1421 at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo®, October 20-22, 2010 in New Orleans, LA.
