Yahoo! and Other Networks Join new IXPs

BUFFALO, N.Y. & TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- IIX Networx Inc. announced today that it has launched the Buffalo Niagara International Internet Exchange (BNIIX) within the carrier hotel located at 350 Main Street in Buffalo, New York, and the Greater Toronto International Internet Exchange (GTIIX) within the carrier hotel located at 151 Front St. West, Toronto, Ontario.

With the continuing growth of Internet traffic, BNIIX and GTIIX will allow its members to route IP traffic efficiently between each other via a centralized switching fabric. The infrastructure of these Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) will also allow members to reduce transit costs, and improve reliability and lower-latency of internet traffic.

BNIIX and GTIIX newest members include: Yahoo! Inc. (BNIIX); Nexicom Inc. (GTIIX); Fiber Networx Inc. (BNIIX and GTIIX); and Data Centers Canada Inc. (GTIIX).

“Data Centers Canada is pleased to be one of the newest members and supporters of this new Internet Exchange Point,” stated Paul Di Benedetto, Managing Partner at Data Centers Canada. “We are looking forward to the benefits BNIIX and GTIIX will bring to the peering community both in the USA and Canada.”

“We are pleased with the support that BNIIX and GTIIX have received to date,” stated Al Burgio, Chief Peering Liaison for IIX Networx Inc. “These two IXPs will play an important role in providing a reliable and resilient Internet Exchange for telecom carriers, internet service providers, digital content providers, broadcasters, educational institutions, and other network operators.”

The BNIIX and GTIIX switching platforms are located in the respective interconnection facilities operated by ixColo within Suite 540 at 350 Main Street and Standard Connections within Suite 602 at 151 Front St. West. The respective members of BNIIX and GTIIX will be able to cross-connect to these Internet Exchanges either from within the ixColo and Standard Connections interconnection facilities or via the building Meet-Me-Rooms within these respective carrier hotels.

“BNIIX is the first public peering point in Buffalo, the second most populous city in the state of New York,” stated Peter Ronca, CEO of Shatter I.T. and ixColo, LLC. “Many network operators already have a point of presence within the 350 Main Street carrier hotel and will be able to benefit by joining this Internet Exchange.”

ixColo and Standard Connections do not charge monthly recurring costs for cross-connections within their respective facilities, whether onto the BNIIX and GTIIX Internet Exchange platforms or otherwise.
