Total Access 5000 and FTTN DSLAMS Key Elements of Broadband Expansion

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation converged access solutions, today announced that TEC, the holding company for several telecom service providers in the Southeast, has selected ADTRAN’s Total Access® 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform (MSAP) and Total Access Fiber-to-the-Node (FTTN) DSLAMs for its Broadband Stimulus upgrade project at Bay Springs Telephone Company.

TEC received an award from the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) in the first round of the Broadband Stimulus program to upgrade its transport network and push fiber deeper into the Bay Springs Network for enhanced broadband delivery. ADTRAN presented a unique solution to TEC for this deployment with its Total Access 5000 and OSP DSLAMs. This solution will allow Bay Springs to deliver both FTTN and Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) from the same MSAP, while shortening loop lengths for maximum efficiency via the OSP DSLAMs. ADTRAN’s advanced broadband diagnostic tools offer an added advantage, enabling rapid service turn up with minimal impact on service provider personnel.

“ADTRAN has played an instrumental role to positively influence the Broadband Stimulus Program. They understand our needs and those of our customer base and we are pleased to team with them to upgrade our network in Bay Springs,” said Brent Fisher, director of network operations, TEC. “ADTRAN is a long-term strategic partner. We currently use a broad portfolio of ADTRAN products, including the Total Access 5000 for the delivery of IPTV, voice, high-speed data, and a full suite of telecommunications services. With this network upgrade, we will be adding 10Gbps ERPS transport, 10Gbps network uplinks, and significantly enhancing our access capacity. We look forward to further strengthening our relationship with ADTRAN, while enhancing our capabilities in Bay Springs with the Total Access 5000.”

The ADTRAN Total Access 5000 is a multi-service access and aggregation platform that efficiently enables service providers to deploy many carrier class services from a common product. An all-Ethernet core provides scalability to meet any access service demand. The Total Access 5000 is the ideal solution for both fiber and copper access technologies gracefully handling the transition from legacy to next-generation services and providing a path toward a converged network.

“We are pleased to build upon our relationship with TEC,” said P. Steven Locke, vice president of sales, service providers, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “We understand the challenges faced by service providers, like TEC, especially in underserved, rural areas. This is why we continually refine and enhance our product portfolio, enabling carriers to extend their reach and deliver the latest technologies in areas that before were economically unfeasible.”
