CapRock Completes Gulf of Mexico Rollout of iDirect Evolution Platform
CapRock Customers Benefit from Greater Bandwidth Efficiency and Increased Service Reliability
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CapRock Communications, a global provider of satellite communications to remote and harsh environments, today announced the completed rollout of iDirect’s next-generation Evolution® platform across its clients’ energy and maritime vessels in the Gulf of Mexico. Over three hundred CapRock sites are now operating on Evolution and more will be implemented globally over the next year. Customers are immediately experiencing greater service availability during severe rain patterns and will benefit from better bandwidth utilization and easier rig transitions from one region to the next.
“Our customers’ operations are growing in complexity and pushing into all corners of the globe,” said Ron Wagnon, CapRock VP and general manager of North America. “Drilling contractors and fleet operators need to securely support the applications and data needs of multiple parties onboard their assets and make sure vessels can move from one location to the next seamlessly. This requires greater bandwidth utilization.”
By standardizing globally on the Evolution platform, CapRock can provide clients with seamless global service and maintain existing service capabilities even while vessels are en route. Built on the latest DVB-S2 broadcasting standard with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), Evolution provides immediate bandwidth efficiency gains and improved link availability during adverse weather. Further, iDirect’s Group Quality of Service (QoS) feature gives CapRock’s customers flexibility across the network, allowing them to set bandwidth priorities even at the application level. This means that a critical monitoring function at one location can be programmed to take precedence over personal email usage at another site.
“Evolution is engineered to provide increased bandwidth availability, efficiency and reliability, even in remote and demanding locations such as CapRock’s customer sites in the Gulf,” said Rob Kilroy, iDirect’s VP of sales for the Americas. “With iDirect’s advanced feature set, including Deterministic TDMA, Adaptive Coding and Modulation and Group QoS, CapRock can address complex customer requirements and ensure consistent service performance globally.”
“We are always evaluating new technologies that further improve the reliability of our services,” continued Wagnon. “We’ve received strong feedback from our customers that the Evolution platform is providing immediate benefits, specifically preserving service reliability in adverse weather, such as heavy rains. And we look forward to the additional benefits Evolution will bring as they are implemented.”
