CEA Commends Obama Administration on Release of 115 MHz of Spectrum
Unlicensed Spectrum to Drive Innovation
ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® applauds the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s announcement that it will be releasing 115 MHz of government spectrum for wireless broadband use. The following statement can be attributed to Gary Shapiro, President and CEO of CEA:
“The administration’s action is a true ‘win-win’ – it will help jumpstart innovation and create jobs. More, we continue to support the idea of a voluntary process that reclaims a significant amount of underused spectrum from the broadcast TV bands. This market-based ‘Mobile Futures Auction’ is the type of additional action needed to ensure Americans can have wireless access and that our country continues to be a leader in innovation.
“We will continue to work with President Obama as he implements his pledge to nearly double the amount of available commercial wireless spectrum over the next decade. We also look forward to working with Congress to incentivize commercial broadcasters to relinquish their current underused spectrum and participate in spectrum auctions.”
