Reports Illustrate that Targeted, Controlled Jamming of Cell Phone Signals is 100 Percent Feasible Through Proper Engineering

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- CellAntenna, experts in cell phone threat management, today applauded the continued efforts by the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to address the issue of illegal cellular phones in prisons. NTIA recently released two reports following up an on-site test of a jamming device at the Cumberland, Md. federal correctional facility in February. Both reports offered further evidence that it is 100 percent feasible to design a system that only jams cell phone communication within a facility and does not affect public safety or any other communication.

“This is another big step forward and it would be great if the Federal Communications Commission would join with NTIA in researching more aggressive and modern solutions to the issue of illegal cell phones in prisons,” said Howard Melamed, president and CEO, Cell Antenna Corporation. “This of course counters the CTIA’s argument that it is impossible to control jamming signals. The CTIA needs to upgrade their engineering to today’s standards, and stop the nonsensical objections that are based on outdated legislation.

“We have the technology to meet the NTIA challenge using our jamming solutions and our cell phone control technology. These solutions have already been deployed and proven to be effective in prisons,” continued Melamed. “CellAntenna has had the pleasure of working with NTIA and we hope the FCC will allow us to test jamming equipment in the same controlled manner so that they can also develop working standards and have a better understanding of what jamming is really all about.”
