Center for Sustainability and Excellence to Hold Workshops at ‘TIA 2011: Inside the Network’
Life Cycle Assessment for Carbon Footprint and Sustainability Supply Chain for the IT Sector Are Focus of CSE Training
ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- How should the information and communications technology industry plan for reducing power consumption in their products and networks?
By 2015, the worldwide consumers of wired broadband will top 647 million and use a massive 3 gigawatts to fuel the delivery of bandwidth. This power consumption will swamp the world’s electrical infrastructure. To keep pace with this demand, the industry has one of two choices: either build hundreds of additional power plants or reduce the power consumption of the enabling broadband devices, central office and customer premises equipment.
In their efforts to educate and work with the manufacturers and suppliers of communications devices and networks on sustainable solutions, the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and the Center for Sustainability and Excellence (CSE) announced today that CSE will conduct two workshops at TIA 2011: Inside the Network, TIA’s annual event, May 17-20 at the Gaylord Texan Hotel in Dallas.
The workshops, both scheduled for May 17, will address:
- Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) – Carbon Footprint
- Sustainability Supply Chain – IT Sector
The workshops augment TIA 2011’s Sustainable Network education track, which is designed to meet information needs of communications industry managers and directors who are responsible for strategy and tactical implementation of programs and policies to reduce energy consumption and improve carbon footprint in network and corporate operations.
CSE contributes to the formation of Sustainability trends worldwide, with active projects and activities in over 20 countries.
“We’re pleased to welcome CSE to the TIA 2011 educational lineup,” said TIA President Grant Seiffert. “TIA and its member companies have been working on sustainable solutions for our products and networks that are scalable to the mushrooming growth in consumption of the devices and services. The applicable knowledge that CSE brings to TIA 2011 will give us fresh insight and help us to spark new ways to innovate to achieve our sustainability goals.”
