Continuous Computing Announces Nine Overseas Trillium Femtocell ODM Customer Wins
3G and LTE femtocell leader works with Asian ODMs to drive down small cell price points and quickly bring top quality femtocell, picocell and microcell products to market
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Continuous Computing®, the global provider of integrated platform solutions that address the mobile broadband capacity challenge, today announced it has nine overseas Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) customer wins for incorporating industry-leading Trillium® Femtocell protocol software into 3G and Long Term Evolution (LTE) access point devices. This large base of Asian technology customers, headlined by Taiwanese company Alpha Networks – recognized around the world for its ability to deliver cost-optimized, high-volume manufacturing services – is crucial to enabling femtocells to reach the price points required for mass- market adoption. Additional Continuous Computing ODM customer wins include Ablaze Wireless, Arcadyan Technology, Askey, Foxconn, Gemtek and MitraStar (spinout from ZyXEL) among others.
With this substantial collection of ODM customers – part of the company’s 30-strong 3G femtocell customer win list – Continuous Computing is now enabling the femtocell market to reach a business model akin to mature, proven consumer electronics technologies such as Wi-Fi, cable modem and digital subscriber line (DSL) customer premises equipment. ODMs not only manufacture the hardware but also incorporate the necessary software, thereby significantly reducing integration costs. The portability of Trillium software and the associated reference and deployment-ready applications now enable these firms to rapidly deliver solutions without limiting their flexibility to select the appropriate silicon and bill of materials components to meet customer performance and cost expectations. Furthermore, these firms can choose directly from any of the silicon giants represented in Continuous Computing’s market-leading base station silicon ecosystem.
“We see a great deal of growth potential in the small cell mobile market, and we had the capability to mass produce femtocell access point devices but needed the tools to make them truly customer-ready,” said Tim Kang, chief technology officer for Alpha Networks. “Using Trillium software we have the ability to customize access point products for mobile operators and integrate with our existing powerline communication, digital home and broadband products.”
“The ODM marketplace is a major strategic focus for us, and this particular collection of companies entering the femtocell market is a strong indication of the immense opportunity in small cells, where products are soon to reach price points conducive to wide scale adoption,” said Manish Singh, vice president of product line management for Continuous Computing. “The portability of Trillium software enables our ODM customers to seamlessly integrate it into their 3G and LTE femtocell, picocell and microcell access points, further decreasing the design time necessary to produce a market-ready device.”
