Douglas C. Smith Named Winner of the 2011 Innovator Award for Government Services at TechAmerica’s 53rd Annual David Packa

RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Douglas C. Smith has been named the winner of the 2011 Innovator Award for Government Services at the 53rd Annual David Packard Medal of Achievement and Innovator Awards which honors individuals for their contributions to the technology industry.

Since 1959, TechAmerica has awarded the David Packard Medal of Achievement, their highest award, to honor significant lifetime contributors and pioneers of the high-tech industry and to honor current leaders TechAmerica added the Innovator Awards.

Smith is president and CEO of Oceus Networks, a broadband services and solutions provider that empowers government and industry across the globe to deliver high-speed voice, video and data communications. For more than 20 years, he has led teams focused on the advancement of broadband communications. Prior to his current role, Smith served as president and CEO of Ericsson Federal Inc. where he established the company as a leader in delivering broadband communications to the U.S. civilian and defense government communities. Smith also led Ericsson North America’s business development activities, including formation of its team and identification of key markets, new customers, investment opportunities and risk.

The Tech America Government Services Innovator Award was presented to Smith for his leadership in creating Oceus Networks Xiphos™, a new fourth-generation (4G) Long Term Evolution (LTE) family of fully interoperable solutions that enable high-speed, high-capacity voice, video and data transmissions for government personnel and first responders. “The new Xiphos broadband platform fills a critical communications need for military and civilian government agencies, first responders and others where access to fast, mobile connectivity can literally change lives,” Smith said. “With government agencies increasing their deployment of commercial broadband solutions, we are proud that Oceus Networks’ new product release provides a highly sought after but rare resource – 4G broadband anytime, anywhere.”

The Innovator Awards honor innovators representing different industry segments for their contributions to the technology industry.
