High performance end-to-end wireless solution meets surging bandwidth needs

LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Firetide’s renewed focus on the enterprise is expanding the company’s reach beyond its leadership in high-performance wireless infrastructure mesh for video surveillance. Firetide’s wireless LANs and point-to-point bridges enhance its core MIMO infrastructure mesh products, creating new opportunities for Firetide in commercial, transportation and government markets. Information technology (IT) managers struggling to meet bandwidth demand from the growing use of multimedia and mobile devices find that Firetide’s wireless network delivers the high performance (up to 300 Mbps) needed to scale and support bandwidth-intensive voice, video and data applications on a metro- and campus-wide scale.

Addressable Market Growing by a Factor of 10 in 2011

“In 2010, Firetide built upon its high performance, wireless infrastructure mesh to provide end-to-end wireless solutions that can scale and support multiple services and applications in fixed and mobile environments, indoors and outdoors,” said Bo Larsson, CEO of Firetide. “Today, Firetide is the only company with a single wireless infrastructure that can support live, large-scale video, voice, and data services to meet the demands of converging technology and market trends. As a result, the company sees its addressable market growing by a factor of 10 in 2011.”

For 2011, Firetide forecasts 50% growth over 2010 with 30% coming from Firetide’s proven and well established wireless infrastructure mesh and the balance from its new WLAN and point-to-point bridges. Revenue is expected to be evenly split between government and commercial markets, now showing signs of recovery. The company expects 20% of its revenue to come from key OEM partners like: NETGEAR for WLAN controller products aimed at SMB space; and Aclara for utilities infrastructure.

“I’ve long been an advocate of mesh architecture, the most important architectural direction for wireless communications overall. Broadband infrastructure mesh is the only solution that can cost-effectively and reliably scale to cover large geographic areas with high-bandwidth connectivity, quite distinct from both Wi-Fi and cellular,” said Craig Mathias, a Principal with the wireless and mobile advisory firm Farpoint Group. “Firetide is exceptionally well-positioned in infrastructure mesh, with a product line that can meet the growing bandwidth demands of a broad range of applications, and opening up new market opportunities for the company.”

Revenue Driven by Demand for Innovative Applications

In 2010, Firetide grew 30% over the previous year. The company has maintained its technology leadership through continued innovation and new product introductions, investing over 30% of revenues annually on R&D even in a down economy.

Firetide has delivered continuous quarterly revenue growth since the company’s first full year of shipping product in 2004. Customers include the largest municipalities in the U.S. such as Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Orlando, Phoenix and Los Angeles County. Firetide infrastructure is also being deployed by government, transportation and commercial organizations in such countries as India, Australia, the Philippines and South Korea where Firetide has 70% market share in wireless infrastructure mesh.

Internationally, Firetide has deployed numerous innovative wireless networks for indoor and campus settings, transportation, industrial and rural sites, particularly in the Asia Pacific. In South Korea, the company’s wireless technology is the enabling infrastructure for: the country’s ‘u-city’ and ‘u-Korea’ digital service initiatives, including in Seoul and Busan; the $2 billion ‘4-Rivers’ multi-service restoration project; the Seoul Subway; and the Seoul MIMO children safety zone and location-based tracking service.

At the same time, Firetide maintains its leadership in wireless infrastructure mesh for video surveillance. In its report “The Americas Market for Wireless Infrastructure Used in Video Surveillance – 2010 Edition,” IMS Research ranked Firetide as the #1 supplier of wireless mesh equipment used in video surveillance applications in the Americas.
