Guam Congresswoman, Governor and Legislature offer public ‘accolades’

TAMUNING, Guam--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- GTA TeleGuam Tuesday announced that Dan Moffat, the company’s former president and CEO, received three public commendations and resolutions from Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo, Gov. Eddie Baza Calvo and the Guam Legislature for his leadership in driving innovation and communications competition on Guam.

In her commendation published Oct. 26 in the Congressional Record, Congresswoman Bordallo praised Moffat for “transforming the Guam Telephone Authority from a government operation to an effective, successful and thriving telecommunications enterprise on Guam.”

Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio presented an award on behalf of Gov. Calvo honoring Moffat for “his pioneering contributions that expanded telecommunications services, provided job for Guamanians, and helped countless people in need.”

The Guam Legislature adopted a resolution to recognize and commend Moffat “for his invaluable contributions in expanding the economic growth, and the business and cultural interests of Guam.”

Moffat resigned as president and CEO last September over stateside family health concerns. He remains as a member of the GTA TeleGuam board of directors.

“This broad level of recognition at the federal and local levels is humbling,” Moffat said. “These accolades are a tribute to the hard work of local employees who live GTA’s motto of ‘Always There For You’ and the faith of our investors on Guam’s growth potential.

“GTA TeleGuam employees have worked hard to introduce exciting new products to Guam such as digital television, iPhone and BlackBerry,” Moffat said. “Innovation and competition have meant lower prices and better services for all Guam consumers.”

Since privatization in 2005, GTA TeleGuam has invested more than $90 million to drive competition and innovation on Guam while promoting Chamorro value and active community involvement.

Moffat guided GTA TeleGuam in recruiting, training and developing a highly motivated team using local talent.

GTA TeleGuam was first to introduce the BlackBerry and iPhone smartphones on Guam. It launched digital television as a competitive offering to pay cable TV in 2008.

Robert Haulbrook succeeded Moffat as president and CEO of GTA TeleGuam, effective Oct. 10.
