GTA TeleGuam Boosts Trans Pacific Communications Capacity to U.S. Mainland
High use of smartphones, Internet access and HD TV content drive demand, investments
TAMUNING, Guam--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- GTA TeleGuam Wednesday announced it has boosted its trans-Pacific communications capacity by more than 60 percent from Guam to the U.S. mainland enabling faster Internet access and additional high definition programming on its digital television service called GUdTV.
With last week’s capacity increase, GTA TeleGuam has more than tripled its trans-Pacific data communications capability over the last 13 months to better serve its customers. GTA TeleGuam also upgraded communications modules at its network connection point in Los Angeles to accommodate the latest bandwidth boost.
“We are seeing unabated IP demand among consumers and businesses in Guam through increased use of wireless smartphones, Internet access and more HD content on GUdTV,” said Andrew Gayle, executive vice president of product development and management for GTA TeleGuam. “GTA TeleGuam’s rapid growth in each of these three market segments necessitates continual network expansions. We are committed to continue making telecom investments to accommodate growth.”
Another driver for increased trans Pacific and IP capacity demand is the growth in managed enterprise services and high capacity metro Ethernet services among businesses in Guam.
Additional trans- Pacific communications transport capacity ensures faster data connections for sending and receiving messages and downloading information from the Internet through computers or wireless smartphones. High definition television programming on GUdTV is bandwidth intensive.
The smartphone leader in Guam, GTA TeleGuam is the only authorized provider to offer customers the choice of iPhone, BlackBerry and Android. GTA TeleGuam also provides the most high definition television channels in Guam.
Smartphones allow users to access the Internet, send email, browse the Web, stream music, download videos, send photos, text, talk and more. Smartphone customers use, on average, about 10 times more data than users of basic cellular phones. This is because they have access to more applications, data capabilities and other functionality than traditional wireless phones.
