National Cable & Telecommunications Association to Present Mintz Levin Attorney with 2010 Vanguard Award

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mintz Levin attorney Howard J. Symons, Chair of the Firm’s Communications Practice, is one of nine recipients of the cable industry’s top honor this year in recognition of his significant contributions to the industry’s innovation, growth and progress.

Mr. Symons, who is based in Washington, D.C., will be recognized by the National Cable & Telecommunications Association and receive its 2010 Vanguard Award for Associates & Affiliates at the association’s annual convention and international exposition on May 11-13 in Los Angeles.

Mr. Symons’ practice focuses on the representation of cable, wireless, and telecommunications companies and trade associations on a wide range of issues before Congress, regulatory bodies, and the courts. He has worked for several years as an adviser to key members of Congress on landmark policy issues. Before joining Mintz Levin, Mr. Symons served as Senior Counsel to the Subcommittee on Telecommunications in the U.S. House of Representatives. During his four years in that capacity, he was responsible for the development of legislation on matters ranging from domestic telephone policy and international telecommunications to cable franchising, including serving as one of the principal drafters of the Cable Communications Policy Act of 1984. He was also responsible for the Subcommittee’s oversight of Federal Communications Commission activities in the areas of telephone and cable policy.

Mr. Symons is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia. He received his B.A. summa cum laude, from Yale University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School. Mr. Symons has been recognized multiple times by Best Lawyers in America, Washington, D.C. Super Lawyers, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, and named a 2007 Chambers Global: World’s Leading Lawyers for Business leader in the Telecom, Broadcast, and Satellite field.
