Intellifiber Networks Awarded NASA Ethernet Contract for Diversity and Redundancy
NASA contract is the latest in a series of awards issued to Intellifiber for Federal Government networks requiring mission critical diversity
HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Intellifiber Networks, a subsidiary of PAETEC Holding Corp. (NASDAQ GS: PAET), which serves the growing network needs of government enterprises, and carrier customers announced today that it has been awarded a five year contract by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to construct, provision and manage a diverse communications network for NASA’s Wallops Island Flight Facility (WFF).
The five year contract utilizes Intellifiber’s robust fiber optic network on the Delmarva Peninsula, to provide a mission critical north-bound network diversity ensuring that Wallops Island Center is not reliant on a single terrestrial communications path. Additionally, the solution required special construction on the eastern shore of Maryland to interconnect fiber networks. The completed “critical infrastructure” network eliminated single points of failure between Wallops Island Flight Facility (WFF) and other points on NASA’s network.
Prior to the award, all terrestrial communications originating at NASA WFF routed through a single point of failure via Norfolk, Virginia. Intellifiber’s solution created a network path from WFF on the Eastern shore of Virginia and Maryland to Goddard Space Flight Center. The new network provides NASA with an increased confidence in network survivability and continuity of operations in the case of an event causing a network outage. The network was constructed and delivered to NASA within 90 days of contract award.
Intellifiber has been serving governmental entities such as the Department of Defense and Defense Information Systems Agency, FAA, Department of Treasury, Department of Veterans Affairs, US Army, Air Force and Navy, U.S. Courts and the Department of Homeland Security since 2005. In 2010, Intellifiber announced the activation of the 500th high capacity circuit delivered to the United States Department of Defense (DoD). Circuit speeds for the DoD ranged from DS-3 to 10G wavelengths covering 14 states and more than 150 locations.
