Company to Service Mobile Content for U.S. Publishers to the More Than 450 Million Wireless Subscribers in Latin America
RIO DE JANEIRO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- After operating for only three months, Kaboom Latam has quickly become the premier publisher of mobile content in the Latin American market by signing deals with several leading mobile games companies including Glu Mobile (NASDAQ: GLUU), THQ Wireless (NASDAQ: THQI), I-Play and Sonic Boom.
Kaboom offers major content publishers in North America and Europe a turn-key and low cost solution for entering the highly complex and fragmented mobile market in Latin America. Founded by Bill Woods, former Vice President of Latin America at Glu Mobile and head of Publishing for the Americas at THQ Wireless, Kaboom provides mobile content to more than 35 carriers in 15 countries, reaching more than 450 million cell-phone subscribers. Kaboom Latam has local offices in Brazil, Argentina, Peru and Chile, with plans to open additional local offices in Mexico and Venezuela by year end.
“The Kaboom agreement allows THQ Wireless to maintain a presence in Latin America while leveraging the knowledge and deep carrier relationships of Kaboom," said Adam Comiskey, VP of THQ Wireless.
“Kaboom’s offering expands the market opportunities for publishers and content owners well beyond the typical offering of mobile games and static content,” said Bill Woods, President and CEO of Kaboom. “Amidst the intricacies of the Latin America market, Kaboom has the know-how and team in place to provide value for the content owners and mobile operators for all mobile content and applications, including video publishing and an advertising platform for entertainment companies.”
In Latin America, there are currently more than 450 million wireless subscribers, with Brazil reaching nearly 180 million in the first half of 2010. Although still representing a small number, the devices with 3G technologies are gaining ground, expanding business possibilities. From December 2009 to June 2010, according to Teleco, the number of phones with 3G technology in Brazil grew from almost seven million to more than 13 million.
