ADTRAN’s GPON Solution Dramatically Reduces Deployment Costs

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation converged communications solutions, today announced that LaWard Telephone Exchange, Inc., a leading provider of state-of-the-art Internet and telecommunication services for both residential and business customers in southern Texas, has selected ADTRAN’s Total Access® 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform and Total Access 300 Series ONTs for fiber-based GPON business and residential services. The ADTRAN solution will enable LaWard Communications to easily and economically upgrade its network infrastructure extending fiber services to rural residents reaching previously underserved areas and bringing next-generation services to existing customers.

“We worked with an engineering firm and evaluated all of the platforms available to meet our diverse needs. The Total Access 5000 was the best solution for the long term because of its capabilities today and its flexibility for the future, making it a clear winner,” said Nick Strauss, plant manager, LaWard Telephone. “ADTRAN’s unique technology allowed us to reach all of our customers without adding equipment cabinets in the field, significantly reducing the cost and complexity of our Fiber-to-the-Home deployment.”

The ADTRAN Total Access 5000 is a carrier-class, multi-service access and aggregation platform that bridges the gap between existing and next-generation networks. With an all-Ethernet core, the Total Access 5000 supports both legacy and emerging service interfaces, easily scaling to support bandwidth-intensive applications. This scalable Ethernet architecture allows carriers to use the Total Access 5000 to economically address both legacy and next-generation services, while providing a seamless path toward a converged network.

“Extending fiber to remote customers is a key objective for service providers today,” said P. Steven Locke, vice president of sales, service providers, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “Our industry-leading GPON OLT keeps fiber deployments cost-effective, providing 30km reach per PON while allowing a full 32 way split. The versatility of the Total Access 5000 will not only allow LaWard to meet the needs of its customers today, but for years to come.”
