The Industry’s Most Advanced Android Security Solutions Solidify Android’s Standing in the Enterprise Market

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- LG Electronics and Mocana, a company focusing on smart device security, announced today a new product line aimed at protecting the Android ecosystem from smartphone hackers and mobile malware. Mocana’s new VeloDAR Encryption™, the industry’s most advanced data-at-rest encryption solution for devices, and the new Mocana VeloVPN Client™, the market’s most comprehensive and cross-compatible IPSec VPN client for Android, will come pre-loaded on LG’s Android smartphones and will be demonstrated at the LG Electronics booth (#835), at CTIA Enterprise & Applications 2011 from October 11-13, at the San Diego Convention Center.

“VeloVPN and VeloDAR are highly complementary solutions to LG and the needs of our customers. As one of the world’s largest manufacturers of Android smartphones and the front runner among smart device manufacturers with enterprise mobility solutions capabilities, we are providing our users with secure LG mobile devices. Mocana’s newest additions to its Smart Device Security Platform allow us to deliver security solutions effectively and also enable integration easily to meet the demands of the enterprise market fast,” said Mr. Ki. S. Kim, Corporate Vice President of Global Enterprise Solutions Business at LG Electronics.

The smartphone and tablet markets have seen remarkable consumer adoption of Android, and now enterprises are looking to take advantage of Android’s features, functionality, and user experience. As OEMs look to better bridge consumer devices and enterprise systems, advanced security features are non-negotiable requirements for corporate regulatory and security policy compliance. Mocana VeloDAR Encryption™ protects sensitive enterprise data that resides on Android smartphones and tablets, while Mocana VeloVPN Client™ secures the data communication link from these mobile devices into enterprise networks. These critical security capabilities allow enterprise IT to say ‘yes’ to Android devices, which accelerates Android adoption and makes Mocana’s handset manufacturer customers more competitive. The entire eco-system benefits from a safer, more secure mobile smartphone and computing platform.

Mocana VeloDAR Encryption™

Mocana’s VeloDAR Encryption™ is a highly optimized data-at-rest (DAR) encryption solution that leverages Mocana’s government-certified FIPS 140-2 Level 1 cryptographic core, NanoCrypto™ that’s purpose-built for resource-constrained embedded systems environments like smartphones and tablets. (FIPS 140-2 validated binaries of the entire VeloDAR Encryption product are also available). VeloDAR Encryption™ is designed for Android device manufacturers, enabling them to build in much more sophisticated encryption capabilities, far beyond what is natively available in the Android OS. It even supports encryption of removable SD cards. VeloDAR Encryption™ is the industry’s most finely optimized DAR encryption software for Android devices, a high performing and super-efficient encryption solution that does not negatively impact user experience or battery life. Mocana VeloVPN™ Client

Mocana’s new VeloVPN™ Client is a complete, full featured virtual private network solution that allows OEMs to easily integrate VPN functionality into Android devices that need encrypted tunnels of communication to access critical business and enterprise resources. Based on Mocana’s award-winning NanoSec™ code base, which has been certified by the VPN consortium (VPNC) for interoperability with all leading VPN gateway appliances and vendors, VeloVPN Client™ includes a fully configurable GUI with out-of-the-box support for the latest Android operating systems. Built from Mocana’s Smart Device Security Platform™ (SDSP), VeloVPN Client™ employs a cross-platform implementation that allows OEMs to utilize a single cryptographic engine across multiple security modules, creating system-level efficiencies that minimize code size and make VeloVPN Client™ the fastest and most secure Android VPN on the market, with NSA “Suite B” cryptography algorithms and a FIPS 140-2 Level 1 validated cryptographic core. FIPS 140-2 validated binaries of the entire VeloVPN Client are also available.

Mocana VeloVPN Client™ supports all current IPSec/IKE RFCs and X.509 certificate-based authentication with optional certificate life cycle management using Mocana’s NanoCert™ offering, for better security than password-only schemes. It also features automatic VPN initiation (based upon set configuration profile), multiple gateway handling to connect to multiple VPNs simultaneously, network-to-network roaming and handoff, and advanced split-tunneling capabilities that improve user control and battery life.

Mocana CEO Adrian Turner said, “The launch of our new Velo product line marks the beginning of a new era for Mocana. Traditionally, we've been focused on protecting smart devices in critical contexts like military, smart grid, medical and mobile infrastructure. Moving forward, you'll see Mocana evolving to deliver value-added mobile security offerings for consumer, enterprise and federal end-users as well. Today this cross sector smart device ecosystem is a $900 billion market that’s growing twice as fast as the PC market. These devices - as well as the applications, services and information that run on them - need to be secured. Mocana’s built the only cross-device platform to do that."
