CEO Dave Labuda to Head Session on Implementing Real-Time Rating and Charging

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- MATRIXX Software, developer of the next generation of online charging and policy management solutions, today announces that Dave Labuda, CEO of MATRIXX Software, will present at Management World Americas the difficult choices faced by service providers if profitability is to be maintained during the era of the smartphone.

The session, titled, ‘Will Real-Time Rating and Charging Ever Be Real’ will explore how service providers can close the widening profitability gap between the explosion in mobile data traffic and the minimal corresponding growth in revenue. Labuda, who will be joined by Ian Williams, Billing Practice Principal Consultant at Infosys, will reveal a new method for understanding the cost of processing each data transaction (CPT). Labuda will also discuss how new real-time rating and charging systems can be introduced that cost-effectively offer subscribers control over their own spending. The vision is for service providers to gain control of network usage and understand the profitability of different services and customer segments. By understanding and lowering CPT for mobile data, service providers can launch new offerings with measurable and predictable margins.

“The TM Forum recognizes this important inflection point as service providers consider how best to move away from outmoded batch-based rating and charging systems and into the 21st century - where a single smartphone can create between 30 and 100 times more transactions than a traditional handset,” said Dave Labuda. “This presents not only a technical challenge but also a business challenge, as service providers seek to break away from the flat rate data tariff and become more profitable with personalized subscriber plans and services.”

The TM Forum devised the session because, it says, the industry must shift to real-time financial relationships with all subscribers to drive a compelling customer experience through informed, dynamic relationships. It adds that, in order to reap profits from the mobile data explosion, operators should transition to real-time charging and policy systems that predictably process more transactions at a dramatically lower operational cost.

The interactive session will include an exercise on calculating CPT, group case studies and an interactive debate between Dave Labuda and the audience on the challenges of implementing cost-effective real-time charging solutions.
