Mindspeed to Address Advanced Processor Technology at the 4G Wireless Evolution Conference (4GWE)
Company Executive will Discuss System-on-Chip (SoC) Evolution for Smartphones and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) Basestations
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that James Johnston will be featured as a speaker at the 4GWE Conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center this week. Mr. Johnston’s “4G Synergies in Silicon” presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, October 6, 2010.
“The surge in mobile data traffic and the growing demand for robust video applications will continue to stress wireless networks as operators upgrade their 3G and 4G infrastructure,” said Johnston. “The move to dual-core processors by handset manufacturers and the rise of multicore SoC architectures for macrocells, microcells, picocells and metro femtocells will all contribute to ‘smarter’ and more efficient mobile communications as operators accommodate the unprecedented growth of video-centric data traffic on their networks.”
Mr. Johnston is the chief technical officer (CTO) of the communications convergence processing (CCP) business unit at Mindspeed, where he directs the company’s media (Voice-over-IP) and wireless (4G/LTE) technology initiatives.
About Mindspeed Technologies
Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. designs, develops and sells semiconductor solutions for communications applications in the wireline and wireless network infrastructure, which includes today's separate but interrelated and converging enterprise, broadband access, metropolitan and wide area networks. Our products are classified into three focused product families: communications convergence processing, high-performance analog and wide area networking communications. Our products are sold to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for use in a variety of network infrastructure equipment, including voice and media gateways, high-speed routers, switches, access multiplexers, cross-connect systems, add-drop multiplexers, digital loop carrier equipment, IP private branch exchanges (PBXs), optical modules, broadcast video systems and wireless basestation equipment.
Mindspeed®’s Transcede™ processors integrate an unprecedented 26 programmable processors into a single device that supports the complete processing needs of single- and multi-sector basestations. The processors deliver three sectors of LTE processing in a single SoC device, while retaining substantial processing headroom for manufacturers' own value-added features. Transcede processors reduce system costs, minimize system latency, and use a simplified programming model that allows easy adaptation and design scalability across diverse basestation platforms. The Transcede architecture also minimizes power consumption while providing power management capabilities for further energy efficiency during low-traffic periods. Transcede delivers complete Layer 1 and Layer 2 functionality with the flexibility and performance needed to support 'small cell' basestations and macrocells.
