Mindspeed’s Comcerto Multi-Core Packet Processors Fuel OKI Electric Home Gateway for Leading Japanese Fiber Access Network
Gateway Combines Wi-Fi and Carrier-Grade Voice over IP (VoIP) Capabilities with Ultra-Low Power Consumption
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced that the company’s Comcerto® 1000 customer premises equipment (CPE) processor has been selected by OKI Electric Industry to create an ultra-low-power home gateway with high routing performance and OSGi based value-added service deployment capabilities. The OKI fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) gateway is now being deployed by a leading Japanese carrier throughout its rapidly expanding fiber-access network.
“We are pleased that OKI has selected our Comcerto 1000 processors for use in its latest gateways,” said Raouf Halim, chief executive officer at Mindspeed. “Our advanced, multi-core triple-play processing solutions enable OKI’s gateways to deliver superior power efficiency and performance, along with advanced OSGi value-added service deployment capabilities that will enable one of Japan’s leading carriers to capitalize on opportunities for new, revenue-generating applications, while reducing churn.”
The superior packet handling capabilities of Mindspeed’s Comcerto processors enable OKI’s gateway to deliver high-performance packet routing and scalable virtual private network (VPN) performance. Comcerto 1000 processors feature robust quality of service (QoS) hardware capabilities for demanding voice, high-definition (HD)-grade video and data applications. The Comcerto platform also enables OKI’s gateway to simultaneously support remotely-managed value-added OSGi applications from carriers or third-party providers. The product’s unique dual-core architecture allows each processor to run independently of the other, one dedicated to core gateway functionalities such as IPTV routing and voice processing, and the other to OSGi applications.
“We selected Mindspeed’s Comcerto 1000 processors because of their unique ability to combine high-performance with extremely low power consumption for deploying next-generation broadband services over fiber-access networks,” said Keizo Ikeda, General Manager, Telcom Systems Business Division at OKI Electric Industry Co., Ltd. “Mindspeed’s Comcerto processors have enabled us to develop an extremely power-efficient gateway platform that supports a broad range of traditional broadband services while also paving the way for emerging remotely-managed services.”
Mindspeed’s Comcerto 1000 processors leverage five generations of in-house ARM-based development, and incorporate voice technology that has been proven and enhanced across more than 200 million ports that the company has shipped for use in telecom carrier equipment, worldwide. They feature robust quality of service (QoS) hardware capabilities for demanding voice, HD-grade video and data applications. The processors’ unique, programmable software architecture also enables manufacturers to offer multiple system solutions for various deployments ranging from FTTH-based triple-play gateways to 3G/4G-routers and WiMAX integrated access devices (IADs).
