Encore’s BANDIT-3™ Industrially Hardened, IP+Legacy Routers will provide Network Diversity with Integrated Frame Relay and 3G Cellular Backup

CHANTILLY, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Encore Networks today announced that New Horizon Electric Cooperative has selected Encore’s industrially hardened VPN router, the BANDIT-3™, for its Frame Relay network upgrade. By installing the BANDIT-3™ in substations throughout South Carolina, New Horizon adds Integrated Frame Relay and 3G cellular backup for improved communications and network diversity. Team Telecom, one of Encore’s key channel partners, provided the routers.

New Horizon is a leading Cooperative Service Provider of substation design, project management, construction, maintenance and testing for its five member electric distribution cooperatives. Headquartered in Laurens, South Carolina, New Horizon provides electric service to over 186,000 consumers utilizing the latest technologically engineered software, products and practices.

The Integrated Frame Relay feature of the BANDIT™ combined with its Legacy protocol support provides New Horizon with a single box network access solution. The 3G Cellular Backup function is ideal for disaster recovery and out-of-band management applications. The BANDIT™ provides complete configuration freedom to any transmission service. With its extensive failover capabilities, the BANDIT™ allows any network connection to serve as either a primary or back-up WAN service. The BANDIT™ supports all variants of the SCADA protocol, both bit and byte-oriented, with encryption of all traffic and complete remote management capabilities.

“Part of being NERC compliant is the requirement that Utilities use multi-network solutions for diversity, automated fail-over and management access,” said Matt Girard, Encore Networks Senior Director of Business Development. “The Bandit enables New Horizon to meet this regulatory requirement and, due to its industrially hardened features, provides a secure, high performing SCADA product that can be installed in substations subject to harsh environmental conditions.”
