NTCA Board Announces New CEO
The Board of Directors of the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association (NTCA) is pleased to announce that Shirley Bloomfield will be the organization's new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Michael Brunner who has led the organization for twenty-five years. Following a nationwide search, the board determined that Shirley possesses the unique combination of leadership in the telecommunica- tions policy arena, industry knowledge, executive experience and financial management qualifications that are needed to lead NTCA into the future. Bloomfield is a longtime veteran of the communications industry, having served in a variety of roles throughout her career including Vice President of Government Affairs and Association Services for NTCA, Senior Vice President- Federal Relations for Qwest Communications and most recently as Vice President - Federal Relations for Verizon Communications.
"The Board of Directors looked closely at many highly qualified candidates in the search process, and determined that Shirley has a perfect blend of qualities and experiences to be the next CEO of NTCA. She will be able to hit the ground running and bring great stewardship to NTCA," stated Harry Thomas, NTCA Board President. "Shirley will bring proactive ideas, fresh energy and new perspectives to the organization while maintaining the integrity and reputation of the association in furthering its mission of improving the quality of life in rural communities through the advocacy of broadband and other advanced communications services.
Known as a collaborator and partner, Bloomfield brings her extensive knowledge of rural telecom issues along with relationships developed over many years of interfacing with policymakers, industry partners, general managers and telco board members. Her dynamic style and willingness to explore new opportunities will help move NTCA in positive directions in the future, and particularly during these challenging times in rural America. Bloomfield will begin her tenure as the new CEO in July.
