Occam Networks’ MSAP Solutions Accelerate FTTH Deployment at Big Bend Telephone
Service Provider Supports Anchor Institutions and Homeland Security As Well As Consumer and Local Business Needs
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Occam Networks®, Inc. (Nasdaq:OCNW), announced today that Big Bend Telephone Company, headquartered in Alpine, Texas, has deployed Occam Networks’ BLC 6000 MSAP to transition from copper to fiber broadband services over a single network infrastructure.
Big Bend Telephone covers a territory larger than the state of Rhode Island, serving its customers with a mix of access network technologies. Using GigE and GPON technologies from the BLC 6000, Big Bend provides high-speed access to anchor institutions including rural health clinics, a local university, and regional Homeland Security offices. As part of a strategic shift to Ethernet and a fiber infrastructure, Big Bend will use the Occam BLC 6000 MSAP to deliver voice services, high-speed Internet and data back up services to residential and business customers.
In less demanding areas, the BLC 6000’s DSL technology will provide broadband coverage. By continuing to install fiber deeper into its rural communities and by shortening its copper loops, Big Bend intends to stay ahead of consumer and business demand for bandwidth intensive services.
“We have installed Occam products, to support both the copper and fiber areas of our network,” said Rusty Moore, Chief Technology Officer of Big Bend Telephone. “The combination of a single platform and superior service quality is invaluable as we transition our network to Ethernet and IP technologies capable of delivering emerging services. With improved network performance, our subscribers can take advantage of everything high-speed broadband has to offer.”
“Big Bend Telephone’s ongoing upgrade to FTTP is a significant contributor to the economic health of its rural west Texas service areas,” said Juan Vela, Occam Networks’ Director, Solutions Marketing and Strategy. “Big Bend’s network also provides support for the area’s Homeland Security activities, where high-quality, reliable broadband service is critical.”
