Company Expands Portfolio for All-Optical Infrastructure; MaestrOS™ Service Engine Now Powers Overture Edge and Aggregation Solutions from 1 Megabit to 10 Gigabit

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Overture Networks, the industry’s trusted Carrier Ethernet solutions provider, today introduced the ISG 4800 modular 10 Gigabit Carrier Ethernet edge platform to enable the transition to an all-optical Ethernet network. The ISG 4800 greatly expands the company’s Carrier Ethernet offering—now ranging from 1 Mbps to 10Gbps – all united with Overture’s harmonized MaestrOS™ service engine which provides a complete toolkit for service differentiation, performance assurance and operational efficiency flexibility.

Overture’s ISG 4800 10 Gigabit Carrier Ethernet edge platform was developed in conjunction with leading service providers and is unique in three fundamental areas:

  • Richness of the feature set – The ISG 4800 offers service providers a cost-effective way to differentiate their services and make increased bandwidth available for enterprise access, mobile backhaul and key vertical applications such as financial services, datacenter connectivity, cloud computing backhaul, hub aggregation and carrier network demarcation at the ENNI. With support for thousands of service flows, fine-grained quality-of-service, Ethernet protection rings, and industry standard performance monitoring and fault management, the ISG 4800 boasts the richest feature set in the industry.
  • Operational flexibility – 10 Gigabit Ethernet is emerging in a number of different applications at the network edge, and having a single platform that can support many scenarios reduces operational expenses for the service provider. The ISG 4800 is built on a modular architecture supporting combinations of up to six 10GigE and up to sixteen 1GigE interfaces with a wide selection of pluggable optics, including SFP, SFP+ and XFP.
  • Carrier class performance – As service providers make the shift away from SONET and SDH networks, it is critical that the Carrier Ethernet replacement is capable of the same reliable operation. The compact, temperature-hardened ISG 4800 is designed for the demanding environments of the telco central office, outside plant cabinet, datacenter or enterprise wiring closet. In addition, the ISG 4800 provides the resiliency and monitoring features required for high-performance financial services and data center applications.

“We are witnessing a major shift to Carrier Ethernet at the edge of the network as service providers migrate away from SONET/SDH to all-optical Ethernet,” stated Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder for Infonetics Research. “Service providers are looking for products that give them all they have come to expect from the legacy network, but with Ethernet flexibility and affordability. They will want to see the new Overture ISG 4800, since it looks to me like it hits the mark.”

“Our customers have come to trust Overture to provide powerful, flexible and feature-rich products that help differentiate their services and simplify their operations,” said Jeff Reedy, CEO of Overture Networks. “The ISG 4800 extends that tradition into the 10 GigE space, giving service providers a new solution to address the growing requirements of their customers, increase revenue through service differentiation and decrease costs by improving operational efficiency—all while delivering services from 1 Mbps to 10 Gbps.”
