Cloud-Based MTIPS Solution Secures Internet Access Points for Agencies

ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has provided Qwest Government Services, a part of Qwest Communications (NYSE: Q), Government-wide authority to operate for its Managed Trusted Internet Protocol Service (MTIPS).

GSA developed the government-wide Authority to Operate (ATO) for MTIPS instead of requiring individual authorizations from each federal agency that uses it. MTIPS is available under Qwest’s Networx Universal and Enterprise contracts.

Qwest’s MTIPS allows for physical and logical connections to the public Internet. The cloud-based solution is configured by Qwest to ensure consistent, up-to-date Internet security. It is in full compliance with Trusted Internet Connections (TIC) initiative (M-08-05) by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and meets or exceeds the 51 mandated capabilities for TIC providers.

KEY FACTS:

  • Qwest consistently meets or exceeds the Networx contract’s Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) metrics.
  • Qwest’s TIC is proactively monitored 24x7x365 at our redundant, geographically diverse Network Operations Centers (NOCs), Security Operation Centers (SOCs) and Operation Support Systems.
  • The Qwest Control Networx Portal provides Web-based reporting of statistical and alarm information directly to agencies.
  • Qwest’s TIC provides high-speed connectivity to the Internet with the same performance as Qwest’s Networx Internet Protocol Service (IPS).
  • Qwest’s TIC provides a World-Class Event Generator architecture.
  • Qwest’s TIC solution provides load sharing and dynamic re-route capabilities between TIC Portals, as well as critical access.

SUPPORTING QUOTES:

Diana Gowen, senior vice president and general manager, Qwest Government Services:

“With this government-wide authorization, federal CIOs no longer have to lead an independent C&A audit in order to activate MTIPS with Qwest. Instead, agencies are able to obtain the vital protections that Qwest’s MTIPS delivers under the governance of the GSA ATO. Qwest’s high availability MTIPS architecture ensures that agencies will have secure, private and redundant access to the Internet. MTIPS also allows inter-agency traffic to continue to flow and remain secure, even if the Internet becomes unavailable due to an attack.”
