Cavium’s breakthrough NEURON Search™ Processor enables 4x capacity compared to traditional search technology

HILLSBORO, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Radisys® Corporation (NASDAQ:RSYS), a leading provider of embedded wireless infrastructure solutions, today announced the industry’s first AdvancedTCA product based on the revolutionary search capabilities of the Cavium NEURON Search Processor. As the networks become “all-IP” and usage billing becomes more prevalent, the need for functions such as fast address look up, forwarding and Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) become critical in many network elements. Scaling the capacity of these network elements hinges on having the right capability to perform at wire-speeds. The ATCA-7240 enables exactly these capabilities to reduce cost per bit and power consumption while accelerating TEMs time to market when utilizing the Radisys market leading ATCA platforms.

The new solution further extends the capabilities of the ATCA-7240, a versatile full-duplex 40G packet processing module that provides a complete line-rate solution for applications such as Serving Gateways (SGW), Session Border Control (SBC), Security Gateways, DPI, Edge Routers, Media Gateways and Mobility Management Entity (MME) network elements found in the 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) Evolved Packet Core (EPC).

“As telecom equipment providers develop high-performance applications for LTE networks, they need state-of-the-art, industry standard building blocks that help them get to market faster,” said Venkataraman Prasannan, General Manager, ATCA at Radisys. “Utilizing the breakthrough DPI silicon technology from Cavium, the Radisys ATCA-7240 will provide the industry’s highest performance, most cost effective packet processing and network search capabilities.”

“Radisys is a leading solution provider for 3G/4G wireless infrastructure on ATCA platforms,” said Rajneesh Gaur, General Manager, Accelerator & Adapter Group, Cavium. “The NEURON Search Processor delivers up to 1.6 billion searches per second, while slashing the cost and power making it an ideal solution for next generation wireless and wired infrastructure equipment.”

The ATCA-7240 provides unmatched parallel search and packet data transfer capabilities. It has the ability to offload L2-L4 Access Control List (ACL) and Longest Prefix Match (LPM) lookups in a deterministic fashion from the data processing blocks thereby accelerating complex search requirements and making the ATCA-7240 an ideal fit for high-speed networking applications such as packet classification, access list control and intrusion detection.

As part of the industry leading Radisys ATCA 4.0 platform, the ATCA-7240 Network Search Engine also inherits the benefits of the Radisys integrated platform including reduced time-to-market, cost and development risk-valuable benefits in the migration to 40G. Supported by Radisys' product and partner ecosystem, providing validation and support across all solutions, TEMs can be assured of forward and backward compatibility as they migrate to 40G platforms from Radisys.
