DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/861953/egypt_key_statis) has announced the addition of the "Egypt - Key Statistics, Regulatory and Fixed-Line Telecoms Overviews" report to their offering.

Egypt's telecom sector is performing consistently well with all sub-sectors being open to competition. The country has the largest fixed-line market in Africa and the Arab region, with a highly profitable incumbent telco (Telecom Egypt) which was partially privatised through an IPO. The end of its fixed-line monopoly has opened up new opportunities for competitive service providers, and a second national fixed-line licence to be awarded in 2009 received strong interest from international bidders, although the process has been delayed as a result to the global economic crisis. Instead, two regionally limited triple-play licences for fixed-line voice, high-speed broadband and pay-TV services were tendered in 2010. Efforts are underway to roll out next-generation networks, offering converged IP-based voice, data and entertainment services. Egypt is well connected by several international submarine fibre optic cables in combination with a national fibre backbone infrastructure, and the country's first Fibre-to-the-Home (FttH) network has been launched in Cairo.
