Research and Markets: Mexico's 3G Spectrum Auctions Held In July 2010 Have Brought Hopes of A More Competitive Environment

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/e7fe02/mexico_mobile_ma) has announced the addition of the "Mexico - Mobile Market - Overview, Statistics and Forecasts" report to their offering.

The mobile market in Mexico witnessed a slowdown in subscriber growth and usage in 2009, due in large part to the period of economic recession precipitated by the global financial crisis. Nevertheless, the strength of the mobile sector was illustrated by its double digit growth for the year against a backdrop of GDP contraction. Subscriber growth is expected to remain in single figures during 2010/11 due to a slow economic recovery and due to penetration rates exceeding 80%.

While Telcel still dominates market share, a decision by the competition regulator in early 2010 paves the way for more stringent regulation in favor of Telcel's competitors. In addition, the 3G spectrum auctions held in July 2010 have brought hopes of a more competitive environment from 2011 onwards. In particular, as a consequence of its bidding successes at the spectrum auctions Nextel, through its partnership with Televisia, is expected to significantly increase the competitive pressure on market leader Telcel.

This report provides an overview of Mexico's mobile market, accompanied by relevant statistical data and subscriber forecasts, as well as brief profiles of the major operators including monthly ARPU figures.
