DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/cfd400/tanzania_telecommu) has announced the addition of the "Tanzania Telecommunications Report Q3 2011" report to their offering.

This report introduces a five-year mobile ARPU forecast for Tanzania during BMI's Q311 update on Tanzania's telecommunications market. It also contains growth forecasts for the mobile, 3G and internet markets in view of the latest market data from the telecoms regulator, the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA); some service providers in the market, notably Vodacom Tanzania part of South Africa's Vodacom Group; and Tigo, which is owned by Luxembourg's Millicom Cellular International.

Market Overview:

According to data released by the TCRA, Tanzania had 20.983mn mobile subscribers at the end of December 2010. This represented an annual growth rate of 21.5% and mobile penetration of 46.6%. Tanzania's mobile market experienced relatively fast growth in Q210 and Q310, with net additions of 1.731mn and 1.278mn subscribers respectively.

BMI attributes this to the impact of price competition among the operators in a bid to boost subscriber growth. This view is supported by a dip in ARPU rates reported by Vodacom and Tigo in Q110 and Q210. Market growth in Q110 and Q410 were more tempered, with net additions of just 312,000 and 386,000 subscribers respectively.

Market Outlook:

During the forecast period, the market is expected to continue to record strong subscriber growth as networks expand into rural areas and tariffs become more competitive. By 2015 this report expects that there will be about 36.6mn mobile subscribers in Tanzania, reflecting a penetration rate of more than 70%.

This research envisages continued fixed-line growth during the forecasted period, albeit at a slow pace and at the risk of sudden decline should any other operators decide to discontinue part of their fixed-line operations in favour of faster growing mobile services. By 2015 this report expects the number of fixed-line subscribers to reach 191,000, with penetration remaining unchanged at 0.4%. Broadband forecast was revised, to account for the inclusion of mobile broadband connections using internet dongles on 3G networks.

This report expects this segment to be the main driver of broadband subscriptions growth in the future considering Tanzania's poor fixed-line infrastructure and the growing competition in the 3G market. This report estimates there were about 80,000 broadband connections in Tanzania at the end of 2010. This number is expected to increase to about 2.9mn by 2015, reflecting a broadband penetration rate of 5.6%.
