Campbell, CALIFORNIA, August 31, 2011-Market research firm Infonetics Research today released excerpts from its Service Delivery Platform Software and Services report, which tracks fixed-line and wireless service delivery platform (SDP) software and services used by operators to create and deliver services to their subscribers.

ANALYST NOTE

"While operators' interest in application programming interface (API) exposure continues to be a major contributor to SDP investments, we're seeing those strategies becoming increasingly sophisticated. Operators are recognizing the opportunities associated with delivering enterprise services to specific verticals, such as healthcare, retail, and machine-to-machine (M2M), and are exploring how they can combine their own network-based enablers with enterprise APIs to support these highly targeted services. We're also seeing a push by operators in using their SDPs to support enterprise app stores in addition to more traditional consumer storefronts," explains Shira Levine, Infonetics Research's directing analyst for next gen OSS and policy.

SDP MARKET HIGHLIGHTS

  • Huawei leads the overall SDP market and continues to display momentum that could displace Ericsson from its #1 spot in the SDP services segment and push ahead of currently #1 Oracle in the SDP software segment
  • SDP service revenue is expected to grow faster than that of SDP software due to:
    • Ongoing integration of new services by systems integrators and third party application developers
    • Growing traction for hosted SDP delivery, fueled by capex constraints and economic uncertainty
  • Because mobile operators view SDPs as a key tool in their app store strategies, wireless deployments are outpacing fixed-line deployments and will continue to be the primary driver for SDP market growth
  • Infonetics forecasts the SDP software and services market to hit $5.16 billion by 2015
