Sigma Solutions Acquires Tulsa-Based DTS Communications Inc.
Wireless Expertise from DTS Moves Sigma Into High-Growth Technology Sector
SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Sigma Solutions, Inc., a San Antonio-based information technology company, has acquired DTS Communications, Inc., a four-year-old company based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, specializing in secure high-end wireless networks. The announcement was made today by Scott Gruendler, Sigma Solutions president.
“For some time, we have been seeing great demand for wireless local area networks and Mesh services, a very specialized niche market that builds secure wireless networks for universities, municipalities and hospitals in implementations that range in area from three to 10 square miles,” Gruendler said. “The wealth of expertise DTS brings to the table in wireless technology in both indoor and outdoor settings will add greatly to the range of services we can offer existing and new clients in our various markets.”
For DTS, the merger with a company the size of Sigma Solutions will enable it to expand its portfolio of platforms, as well as its solutions capabilities and move more broadly into the Texas market. The company sees immediate growth potential in many markets – healthcare with clinics, hospitals and telemedicine; education, including distance learning, and municipalities with their increasing need for emergency management, surveillance and police work – where greater ease of communication with a wireless infrastructure yields substantial benefits at significantly reduced cost.
“Wireless – particularly secure wireless – is a high-growth area of technology right now,” said James Cavin, DTS president. “We are excited to be able now to make the most of the opportunities that come to us and to work hand-in-hand on the implementations with an organization that puts quality at the top of its list.”
Sigma Solutions, now a $100 million company, was founded in 1998 in San Antonio and provides implementation and maintenance of enterprise-grade data systems to a number of corporate and organizational clients. The company has been growing steadily through acquisition since 2004 when it acquired Houston-based Solid Systems and Emeryville, California-based Basis, Inc, expanding its reach beyond San Antonio to Houston, Dallas, Austin and New Orleans, as well as locations in Arizona, Minnesota, New Mexico and Oregon. In 2006, Sigma acquired Houston-based SIS Technologies, which added a well-trained, experienced engineering pool that has enabled the company to move more easily into targeted new markets, in particular the commercial, government, medical and higher education market segments.
From the start, Sigma Solutions has remained focused on its core technologies, offering a comprehensive range of products and services that provide solutions to its clients’ infrastructure problems. Based on years of working on client infrastructure and technology integration issues, Sigma Solutions recently began marketing a proprietary EMPOWER Business Methodology to help organizations bring strategic initiatives to market in an accelerated manner. Its tested and proven process reduces overall effort and expense and defines the return on investment based on unique customer data, allowing management teams to see their information systems implementations as a competitive differentiator rather than a burdensome expense.
Sigma Solutions was formed in San Antonio in 1998 and focuses on enterprise data center infrastructure implementations and maintenance. The company employs more than 100 people; including 39 experienced engineers with a broad range of certifications who are practiced in Sigma’s EMPOWER business methodology, which is focused on bringing organizations’ strategic initiatives to market quickly. Sigma Solutions has high-level partnerships with manufacturer partners that include Cisco, EMC, Hitachi Data Systems, HP, IBM, NetApp, Oracle, Quantum, Symantec, and VMware. The company has offices in Houston, Dallas, Austin and New Orleans, as well as locations in Minnesota, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Washington. www.sigmasolinc.com
