SGS deployment brings the number of leading labs choosing Spirent to more than 15

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Spirent Communications, a leader in testing wireless networks, services and devices, today announced that the SGS wireless testing laboratory in Seoul, Korea has become the latest among the world’s leading wireless testing laboratories to deploy Spirent’s 8100 A-GPS Over-the-Air (OTA) test solution. Spirent leads the industry by a wide margin, with installations at more than 15 of the world’s top test labs capable of providing OTA testing services. The Spirent 8100 solution is also widely used by leading labs to offer A-GPS conformance testing as part of device certification to GCF, PTCRB and CCF requirements.

“Spirent’s industry leadership in both navigation satellite emulation and over-the-air testing made them the low-risk choice,” said Nicky You, Lab Operation Manager at SGS. “However, we still asked them to prove that the 8100 system could allow us to offer our customers the most accurate OTA A-GPS testing available, and they delivered.”

Shipments of GPS-capable GSM/WCDMA handsets have continued to grow rapidly - by 97% to 295 million units in 2010, according to analyst firm Berg Insight. But to ensure that the technology delivers as promised in the real world, the performance of A-GPS in devices needs to be tested over the air in a large chamber under precisely-controlled conditions. The CTIA has made A-GPS OTA testing an integral part of its certification process for wireless devices.

“Winning at more than fifteen of the world’s top OTA labs is a great milestone for us,” said Spirent vice president Rob Van Brunt. “We’ve worked hard to apply our subject matter expertise to this important area, enabling us to offer low-risk, high-return solutions to our customers.”

Spirent’s expertise in A-GPS OTA testing is further highlighted in a white paper titled “A-GPS Over-The-Air Test Method: Business and Technology Implications.” The white paper explains the technical advantages and requirements of OTA testing methodology for A-GPS enable devices.
