Company Raises $1.9 Million to Build Out Mobile Privacy Network

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- TigerText, the worldwide leader in private mobile messaging, today announced the completion of its initial round of financing with $1.9 million raised from various angel investors. The funding allows the company to aggressively build out its Mobile Privacy Network as well as add new features and functionality to its messaging platform.

“This is a great vote of confidence in our team and our strategy,” said TigerText CEO and co-founder Jeffrey Evans. “We believe we are on the verge of changing the way mobile communication is conducted. This capital allows us the opportunity to pursue this vision to its fullest extent. We are grateful to have connected with investors who share our enthusiasm for what we are looking to accomplish.”

This round of funding was led by Herb Madan, an experienced Silicon Valley technology executive and angel investor, and Randall Kaplan, co-founder of Akamai Technologies and head of JUMP Investors, a venture capital fund focused on emerging technologies thru funding angel investments.

Madan has joined TigerText’s Board of Directors. Madan said, “As an angel investor, I look for disruptive technologies that can change the way people habitually do things. I believe TigerText represents just such an opportunity. There is fundamentally too much information that lives beyond its utility for both consumers and businesses. TigerText addresses that problem.” Kaplan commented, “Mobile communication today reminds me of the early days of the Internet when I co-founded Akamai - there is so much possibility. I think that TigerText stands at the epicenter of a coming sea change in communication thru mobile devices.”

TigerText launched in February of 2010. TigerText has created a next generation mobile communication network that provides many features that SMS does not. This includes allowing a user to send text messages or photos that delete off both the sender’s and receiver’s phone after a selected period of time. Once a sender selects the message lifespan (from 1 minute up to 30 days), expired messages not only delete from both phones, but are not stored on any server. They cannot be retrieved once expired, mimicking a typical verbal conversation. The sender can also choose other options that do not exist with current texting technology such as deleting the history of the conversation or making a text message “Delete on Read”, meaning the message will disappear 60 seconds after the recipient opens the message.

TigerText is available worldwide to anyone with an Android, Blackberry, iPhone, or iPod Touch.
