Time Warner Cable Business Class Invests $120 Million in Southern California Telecommunications Infrastructure
Investment doubles number of serviceable businesses in coverage area, enhances telecommunications options for local businesses and adds 250 jobs to the region
CERRITOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Time Warner Cable Business Class, the B2B arm of Time Warner Cable (NYSE: TWC), today announced the completion of a $120 million development project, which has expanded the company’s fiber optic telecommunications infrastructure in Southern California and more than doubled the number of potential serviceable businesses in its coverage area. The expansion will make Business Class services, including phone, Internet, Ethernet and cable television available to an additional 125,000 serviceable businesses in the region.
“Time Warner Cable Business Class is a telecommunications company that offers business customers choice, local customer service and value,” said Time Warner Cable Business Class Regional Vice President Dave Montierth. “From Hollywood to Santa Monica and from Anaheim to Downtown Los Angeles, we have really been able to vastly grow the reach of our business offerings. Our goal was to reach as many business customers as possible, while still being able to provide a one-on-one customer experience.”
As part of this project, Time Warner Cable Business Class installed more than 360,000 miles of fiber optic cable, long enough to wrap around the Earth’s equator 14.5 times.
The fiber optic cable was installed in 16 new coverage ‘rings’ – expansive fiber optic telecommunications networks that start and end at the same origin point while looping through concentrated business districts. The ‘rings’ create a reliable infrastructure for business customers by delivering service continuously. In the event of a service interruption, the rings are designed to redirect data in less than 50 milliseconds, eliminating the interruption and allowing customers to focus on their core operations. The unique design of the rings supports a variety of network topologies and gives business customers the flexibility to scale their network as their business and communications needs grow.
The 16 new ‘rings’ target major business arteries throughout Southern California, including parts of the San Fernando Valley (Chatsworth, Van Nuys), San Gabriel Valley (Hacienda Heights, La Mirada), Orange County (Costa Mesa, Cypress, Tustin), Inland Empire (Ontario, Pomona, Fontana, Corona), West Los Angeles (Santa Monica), Downtown Los Angeles, Hollywood, and the South Bay (Torrance, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach).
“For the first time, business customers in areas where Time Warner Cable Business Class operates have a viable choice when selecting a telecommunications services provider,” said Montierth. “This choice delivers considerable value by way of reliable services, a one-on-one customer service experience and an estimated 10 to 15 percent cost savings when compared to other providers.”
As part of this investment, Time Warner Cable created 250 new jobs, including positions in customer care, field operations and technical support. These positions will allow Time Warner Cable Business Class to maintain and expand its one-on-one local customer service model. All customers are assigned a locally based account manager, and dedicated billing and technology support teams. The account manager will continue to serve as the single point, offering great customer services and efficiency, giving business owners the ability to focus on their core business.
