VIPnet Service Supports Army Communications in More than 40 Bases Across Afghanistan

GAITHERSBURG, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- UltiSat Inc., a leading provider of satellite communications infrastructure, services, and teleport facilities, announced it has been awarded a major contract to support users at US Army nodes throughout Afghanistan. Under the terms of the contract, UltiSat provides voice over IP (VoIP), Internet, and secure (IPSEC) data transport services to more than 40 forward operating bases (FOBs) throughout Afghanistan.

Using iDirect’s Evolution 5IF hub and single channel per carrier (SCPC) platforms, UltiSat provides turnkey broadband satellite and network services via two satellites through its strategically located hub in Denmark. In addition, UltiSat provides design and engineering of the network and all remote sites, installation, information-technology services, in-theater personnel for operations and maintenance in Afghanistan, integrated logistics service, 24x7 network support and help desk, and in-country training at all remote sites.

“The satellite communications provided by UltiSat are key to providing users at the FOBs with the communications they need to complete their missions,” said Michael Pollack, vice president, marketing and sales, UltiSat. “In addition to Internet and data transmission services, we support services to more than 1,000 phones and are providing more than 4 million VoIP minutes per month so that users at FOBs in Afghanistan can communicate back to the US and elsewhere in the world, despite the lack of local telecommunications infrastructure.”
