Completes Comprehensive Hardware/Software Solutions Offering for End-to-End Ethernet in Global Carrier and Enterprise Networks

CAMARILLO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Vitesse Semiconductor Corporation (Pink Sheets: VTSS), a leading provider of advanced IC solutions for Carrier and Enterprise networks, has achieved its goal of adding 30 new product solutions to its portfolio during its fiscal 2010. These new solutions are uniquely designed to enable the transition to Carrier Ethernet in edge, access, metropolitan and core networks, and to drive energy savings and capacity enhancements in Enterprise and data center networks.

Built as flexible architectures, the portfolio mixes high integration levels and feature sets to address various price points and equipment sizes for both Carrier and Enterprise networks. Software is reusable across multiple product lines, accelerating time-to-market and saving costs for service provider and Enterprise communication OEMs. Environmentally aware, the devices utilize the newest and most relevant standards for modern “green” Ethernet deployment, including Vitesse’s award winning EcoEthernet™ technology, and support for the just recently ratified EEE (Energy-Efficient-Ethernet) standard, as well as for Synchronous Ethernet and IEEE 1588v2 Precision Timing Protocol (PTP).

“Ethernet is now the unchallenged ubiquitous packet protocol for enterprise, network edge/access and metro services,” said Steve Perna, vice president of product marketing at Vitesse. “This portfolio of new products easily transition the TDM circuit oriented networks of yesterday to the radically improved packetized Ethernet networks demanded today. Redefining functionality, reliability and energy savings, Vitesse’s end-to-end Ethernet solutions bring new Carrier features to the Enterprise and higher performance to public networks. By focusing our R&D efforts on driving emerging standards for Carrier Ethernet at physical, MAC, and higher layers, Vitesse is uniquely positioned to provide a comprehensive end-to-end IC and software portfolio to its customers. In the future, we see these same requirements migrating into applications such as cloud computing and even networking for SmartGrids.”

Highlights of the 2010 introductions include:

  • Jaguar™ and LynX™ Carrier Ethernet switch engines, the first products designed specifically for service provider Carrier Ethernet applications;
  • Caracal™ Carrier Ethernet switch engine, the industry’s only single-chip, green Carrier access solution supporting 1588v2, MEF service delivery and OAM;
  • E-StaX-III™ Gigabit Ethernet switch engines for combined switching and stacking functionality in Enterprise applications;
  • SparX-III™ Gigabit Ethernet (GE) switch family, the industry’s first with up to 12 integrated PHYs and EcoEthernet 2.0 technology;
  • 40G and 100G CI-BCHeFEC forward error correction technology with best-in-class net electrical coding gain;
  • VSC3340 “green” Crosspoint switch for high density, low power HD broadcast video systems;
  • Three new SimpliPHY™ copper PHYs delivering unprecedented energy savings with EcoEthernet v2.0;
  • VSC7111 quad-channel signal conditioning IC offering 35% lower 10G power dissipation levels than best-in-class solutions for data center and networking equipment; and
  • VSC8484 and VSC8488 10G SerDes devices, the first 10G Ethernet PHYs to include precision timing support and failover resiliency.

The Ethernet Switch and PHY products allow the development of highly integrated and low power Enterprise Ethernet switches, wireless cell site routers, microwave backhaul equipment and switching subsystems that support a variety of copper and fiber media, while embedding support for low-power modes, network timing services, and failsafe availability, all critical features in a fault-tolerant carrier environment. New crosspoint switches and signal conditioners re-affirm Vitesse leadership in low-power connectivity solutions for telecom, data center, and video equipment.
