It’s not exactly a David & Goliath scenario, but Cable & Wireless’ rush for troubled Scottish telecom Thus is a pretty good story nonetheless, involving not just a battle of companies, but a battle of personalities as well. Needless to say the British press is watching this one as closely as commuters ogle Page 3 of the Brit’s tabloids.
C&W's $550 million bid for Thus—a fraction of the $9 billion valuation it had before the dotcom bust brought it back to ground--ruffled some feathers at the company and possibly will raise a few other bidders from the rough, most notably AT&T and BT.
