Tellabs has not had a chief technology officer in almost two years, and though that may have not been its biggest problem in the interim, it will have a new CTO as of Dec. 8. That's the day Vikram Saksena, Sonus Networks CTO and 16-year AT&T veteran, will come on board.
Tellabs CEO Rob Pullen, who took charge of the company last spring, reportedly wanted to hire a CTO for some time. The company actually did just make a fairly major new technology announcement last week, when it unveiled its 7300 Metro Ethernet Switching line. Pullen also has the company mining international market opportunities, a strategy that has met with several recent successes.
