Verizon has just added another Massachusetts town to its FiOS roster as it has just lit up Westford, Mass. The town's Board of Selectmen granted the ILEC a 15-year cable franchise. To date, Verizon now offers FiOS TV and Internet to 104 Massachusetts communities.
Under a 15-year license agreement, Verizon has built in provisions to serve the town including: provisions for the network's future growth; financial support and network bandwidth for educational and local town government access channels; and cable TV service to local government buildings to name a few.
Westford, Mass. is a prime target for FiOS. Since the 1990s, Westford itself has become a technology hub with the entry of companies such as Juniper and Sonus. Westford's migration from an agricultural to a technology hub since the 1990s has attracted many upper-middle class residents that not only don't mind shelling out money to purchase multiple bundled services from one provider, but will consume a good deal of bandwidth and programming that comes with a Fiber to the Premises (FTTP)-based connection.
