24/7 Mid-Atlantic Network wraps fiber build to Ciena's HQ
Regional fiber provider 24/7 Mid-Atlantic Network has put the final touches on a fiber network build into Ciena's (Nasdaq: CIEN) Hanover, Md., corporate headquarters, giving the vendor a platform to test software defined networking (SDN) and agile photonics.
This deployment caps off what has been a transitional time for 24/7.
Initially supporting only dark fiber services, 24/7 deployed Ciena's 6500 Packet-Optical Platform as a way to support a suite of 100G optical transport and Ethernet services last August.
By completing this network link, Ciena would be able to get access to 24/7's broader network that has reach into several data centers and other facilities throughout the Baltimore; Washington, D.C.; Northern Virginia; and Delaware region.
It has also built core routes that will interconnect Baltimore, D.C., and Ashburn, Va.
In addition to expanding its network reach, 24/7 has been bolstering its management team, naming Ron Kolson as CEO and 16-year telecom industry veteran Sean Baillie as chief revenue officer.
