Alcatel-Lucent may sell Bridgewater stake

Tools

An agreement that kept Alcatel-Lucent from selling its shares in Bridgewater Systems, a policy management company in which it owns a 15.5 percent stake, has expired. Thus, the French network equipment vendor said it may sell its shares in the small Canadian firm, a possibility that comes as Alcatel-Lucent is undergoing major strategic review under a new CEO. The company has previously hinted it might explore selling some assets or investments as part of that process. Still, such a sale would come at a time when policy management is an increasingly important function in broadband networks featuring more complex sets of services. Alcatel-Lucent reports its fourth-quarter earnings on Feb. 4.
