Alcatel-Lucent strategic plan coming Dec. 12

Alcatel-Lucent confirmed some recent chatter that it will unveil a new strategic plan next week. Specifically, Dec. 12 will be the day that new CEO Ben Verwaayen issues the new plan, following what turned out to be a fairly quick strategic review (Verwaayen has been at the helm barely three months). Industry analysts have been urging the mega-vendor to streamline its focus, and that's what Verwaayen has been hinting he will do.

Further specifics of what that strategy will involve remain to be seen, though it has become clear lately that Alcatel-Lucent is pushing hard on Cisco Systems's enterprise turf, and also that the company had a pretty sensitive reaction to the much-ballyhooed launch of Cisco's new edge service router, a technology area Alca-Lu already feels it has in its grip.
