Alteva crafts UCaaS product for the law firm segment

Alteva (NYSE MKT: ALTV) has introduced a new hosted Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) product catering to the specific needs of law firms.

The new service includes a number of features that it says can "address the unique needs of a law office," including enhanced mobility, audio & web collaboration, unified messaging, voice response, call recording and reporting services with multiple options to capture billable hours.

Among the many features included in the new offering are HD Voice Hosted PBX, Unified Communications, and Alteva Anywhere, a feature that allows lawyers to stay connected to the office while protecting their personal caller ID.

"With Alteva's UCaaS solution, attorneys can seamlessly communicate with anyone, anywhere, with detailed tracking," said Mike Timar, vice president of product management at Alteva, in a release.

Already the solution has been adopted by a number of well-known law firms, including Harter Secrest & Emery (HSE), a multi-location firm with over 135 attorneys and 40 practice areas. Having these case studies to cite will enable Alteva, arguably a relatively new player in the UC space, attract other firms looking for an alternative player for their service.

Unified communications (UC) has become a bigger revenue source for the once telephony-centric service provider.

In Q1 2013, UC revenues net of eliminations were $4 million, up sequentially 15.6 percent, a factor that helped to ease the pain of the 9 percent decline in telephone segment revenue. UC contributed 51 percent of revenues in Q1 2013--up from 46 percent for the same period in 2012 and 49 percent in the fourth quarter 2012.
