Another FairPoint flop: Some employee data missing

As if things weren't going badly enough for FairPoint Communications this year, the company admitted this week that a portable storage device containing some personal employee data has been unaccounted for since April 8. The device contained information pertaining to about 4,400 current and former employees, but no personal info about customers, according to the company. While the company is investigating, an Associated Press report says that none of the data has been "improperly accessed." FairPoint said it already has taken action against an employee who failed to follow company security policies.
