AT&T and Amdocs unveil Israeli-based innovation facility

AT&T (NYSE: T), in conjunction with one of its main OSS vendors Amdocs, has opened the doors of its Israeli innovation center, where Israel-based telecom startups and application developers, including video company SundaySky and peripheral device company Ringbow, will be able to work directly with AT&T.

Gil Rosen, VP innovation and digital services for Amdocs, said the innovation has sparked considerable interest from a number of Israeli-based startups.

"A communications vendor usually needs something, and it looks for equipment providers," he said. "We're leaving the usual model to create partnerships between the communications vendor and the start-up. We know what AT&T is seeking and we can show it things it never thought of before."

Israel is just one of a number of AT&T innovation centers. In addition to Israel, AT&T Foundry has established a second innovation center hosted by Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) in Plano, Tx with plans to set up a third center hosted by Ericsson in Palo Alto, Calif. sometime this year.
