AT&T designates Kentucky's 4-Star Industrial Park as 'Fiber Ready'

AT&T (NYSE: T) has designated 4-Star Industrial Park in Robards, Ky., as "Fiber Ready," illustrating that it is making progress with driving fiber into more commercial buildings to deliver IP-based Ethernet and cloud services.

As one of the first parks in Kentucky to receive the designation, the AT&T Fiber Ready designation is all about helping building owners and property owners make their buildings more attractive for businesses looking for facilities.

AT&T said that the Fiber Ready designation "helps economic development leaders more effectively position their communities for site selection by emphasizing the availability of high-speed, fiber-based services."

"This designation and our work with AT&T will help us raise awareness about the infrastructure and benefits of 4-Star Industrial Park with prospective industries and site selection consultants around the world," said Brad Schneider, CEO of Kyndle, the lead economic development agency for Henderson, McLean, Union and Webster counties in Northwest Kentucky, in a release.

Expanding its fiber to the business (FTTB) footprint has been a key priority for AT&T as part of its broader Project VIP initiative, launched in 2012 with a goal of connecting fiber to 1 million business locations.

AT&T's FTTB momentum has continued throughout 2015. In May, the service provider announced that its fiber footprint can now deliver 1 Gbps services to multi-tenant office buildings in more than 180 cities in the United States. Each of the buildings that have been connected to the fiber network will support symmetrical 300 Mbps with the ability to scale to 1 Gbps.

Having more available fiber will enable AT&T in Kentucky and other markets be able to increase its sales of Ethernet. According to Vertical Systems Group's recent fiber availability survey, the availability of fiber was cited as the No. 1 competitive advantage a provider can have in delivering Ethernet.
