AT&T hires more U-verse technicians to support Wisconsin rollout

AT&T (NYSE: T) may never win the wireline voice battle, but its hiring drive to support new U-verse rollouts in its Wisconsin territory shows that IP services continue to be its wireline service savior.

During an event at its Milwaukee, Wis. headquarters headed up by Governor Scott Walker and AT&T Wisconsin president Scott VanderSanden, the service provider announced it would hire 101 new technicians to support growth of U-verse in the state.

To date, AT&T's U-verse service suite (U-verse TV, AT&T U-verse High Speed Internet and AT&T U-verse Voice) are available to over 800,000 living units across 140 Wisconsin communities.

Between 2008 and 2010, AT&T said it invested almost $800 million to upgrade its wireline and wireless networks.

AT&T's drive to expand U-verse in Wisconsin by hiring more technicians follows similar efforts in other key markets, including Atlanta, Connecticut, and San Francisco.
